Control4 Composer Pro Hack

07.02.2019

Hi, Can anyone help with my problem? I am trying to install 2.5.4 but when i patch the director i get an error message Connecting to Controller at 192.168.1.10 Connected successfully. Untested Hacks RyanE's Control4 tricks and hacks, and other stuff. Skip to primary content. And while it isn’t more than one hack as of yet, it is a useful hack if you have Yale locks. While Composer isn’t a bad tool for adding photos to the screensaver, it isn’t a great tool.

When I copied the driver patch over to program files for 260 and try to run as admin I receive the following error “The Patch received and error. Please review the message box for the error. If this was a remote connection, please re-run the patch to make sure the patch was applied correctly and if the certification files are install correctly. The patch has stop running the update” I’m imagining this is because I didnt copy the ca.pem and ca_cert.pem to C: Users appdata Roaming Control4 Composer however I looked and looked for both of these files (even showing hidden files) and cannot find them to copy. The pro software “appears” to be working but if I try to add a drive I get error “the project is locked the system is most likely being updated” (which im imagining is because I cant run the driver patch. On another side note, composer 2.8.0 when I try to run that i get error “broker is not connected to the director.

I'm on the market to get something that will not cost Crestron money and does not fail like Control4 does on a regular basis. If I would have been told I can have a Smart Home that I pay for hardware, but ultimately can't use because its worthless without software.

Start composer as ADMIN -> click sysman, Stop director, Stop broker, Start director, start broker. Close sysman and composer 6. Run “patch director.exe” (v1.0.0.2) 1/28/2016) as ADMIN, select my main controller hit update (reports succesful) 7.

The upgrade process went well with no errors and the last message was something about the upgrade server went offline. However, it seems broken now. The only light that is powered on is ON and when I try to power off and on the link light flashes sometimes than the data light flashes once and then nothing just ON light remains on. I tried a factory restore and had the same behavior. Try installing HE as well. I had that error once and I got it to go away, just don’t remember exactly what I did. My hack should certainly unlock the project, however mine does seem to have limitations with regards to new drivers.

By popular demand, here’s a driver that will fake a garage door hooked to a controller: Have fun with that. ETA: Commenter asked me to explain it a bit: Control4’s Garage Door Sensor / Relay is a combination driver, that uses a relay to toggle a garage door, but shows the *contact*’s door state. One of our dealers wanted to show a garage door in his project that didn’t toggle immediately after you pressed it (like a relay would), so I created this driver. It shows a garage door on the UI, and when you press it, a (configurable) time later, the door opens or closes, as a physical door would. Press, wait a few seconds, the door closes. Press again, wait a few seconds, the door opens. Pretty simple stuff, and not that useful for anyone other than someone demoing Control4 without all the hardware.

I purchased a 800 off ebay without a license and followed all the instructions above and started at 2.53. Everything worked like a charm.

Many thanks to this blog and the links provided. I am now able to completely take over my own Control4 system and updated the hardware drivers to 2.8.2. The only limitation is that I can’t see all the wizards/tools like update etc, as the ComposerHE settings don’t have that feature. But those wizards run fine from the the Composer Pro 2.8.2 folder directly.

First off.I am sorry about posting, as I know you all have repeated these steps over and over. I have a 1.7.4 project. Have downloaded the 2.5.3 from the link previously posted.

Run composer as ADMIN -> click sysman Stop director, Stop broker, Start director, start broker. Close Composer 9. Start Composer -> Connect local select main controller.

I tried this disable/enable director/broker process numerous times on 2.8.1 and it didn’t work for me ever on my HC-800. I tried literally ever known possible solution mentioned in this thread, and others. Out of desperation, I even then tried shaking things up a bit, by doing it in a different order, trying different versions of the patches but still no go Composer Pro 2.8.1 fails to connect to director 2.8.1.

@irbibo – I had some issues in the beginning with project locked errors and errors where it couldn’t connect. What I ended up doing was deleting everything Control4 from my PC (including hidden directories). I started with ComposerPro 2.53 (even though I was running version 2.7.2 on the HC-800) and performed the steps noted in numerous places above to get to 2.7.2.

Not sure how the GE sensors would integrate into that right off hand. The RTI RP system would probably be a good replacement for the remotes, they are RF based, easy to program, and we have a very flexible means to respond to input from them, or any other type of remotes that can send serial or IP based output. Touch screen clients can be whatever combination of standard Windows PCs/tablets/inwalls, Android or iOS devices he wants to use.

10) I opened Composer 2.7.2 and upgraded all devices to 2.7.2. 11) Once the update was completed, I used System Manager to disable director, then broker, and then enable director, then broker in that order.

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but wanted to let everyone know that the instructions I posted back on October 19, 2015 still apply. I’m on the latest version (2.9.0) and still have access to everything. I did run into one snag which happened after I updated my router. I started receiving the “Broker/Director” error and couldn’t get around it with the start/stop method in the System Manager.

The HC500 has both audio in and audio outputs. Can you please explain: “you can even play out a media library you can connect with a USB drive or NAS drive over the network”.

You can announce that someone is at the door or the weather conditions or weather alerts, etc. All the theater/media gear wouldn't be a problem, though depending on the exact models, some might need a driver done if it doesn't already exist.

Control4 composer pro hack

I guess this is fine if following the Patching of the Director I can still communicate with it. Thanks for Rodrigo & Wiley for their advice. Everything worked fine.

But there is a version of 253 that allow you to register your controller. Its a cracked verion. THis is esential as it build the certs you will need to move up through the versions. Please spend som time reading throught this blog. It has everything youll need to get this done. Good luck TK •.

At the least, the four year old HC800 should've been included. The fact that there are other 3rd party ways to address this is not a valid excuse either. Control4's direct customers (dealers) need to make them accountable and hold their feet to the fire.

Good luck TK •. TonyK, I must be an idiot, I factory restored my HC-250 as instructed but controller is still running 2.5.0.23532 after the factory reset. I downloaded Composer 2.5.3 with the patch and got that running and now trying to upgrade the HC 250 to match 2.5.3 but have no luck. Either I am an idiot or not following something here. For example I ran Composer 2.5.3 and get this message: Attention: Your controller is currently running version 2.5 Composer 2.5.2 can only be used to view and update pre-2.5.3 projects. To modify your project you must use Composer 2.5 To update to 2.5.3, select Tools–>Update Manager from the menu. Here is the thing when I try that method using the USB stick it won’t update.

Using Virtual Director I have successfully opened my project with all of the above versions apart from the one I really want to work, which is version 2.8.0. What could be the problem? I have not patched the actual Director of the HC-800 controller, as i do not want to compromise my system. The dilemma is that I can get all of the previous versions to work in the offline Virtual Director, so maybe i am not far away from getting 2.8.0 to work in this way.

Install ComposerPro. Run the Meekah patch on the composerpro.exe 3. Within the composerpro directory there is a file called ‘ComposerPro.exe.config’ Edit this file.

I will only have surround sound on 3 TV’s and 4 zones of music. Basically, what is the best and most flexible way you guys have found to control a system such as this since I’ve never been logged into the control 4 system as a customer in the past •.

Then I installed and patched 2.7.2 once more and badda-boom badda-bing, I have access on the new computer. So I am quite confident the trick is getting 2.5.3 patched on your computer first! What’s different about 2.5.3 is when you log into Composer the first time, you enter an email and password to register Composer.

The Controller will restart director to apply the new files and unlock the project. Completed the Update on the Master Controller. The issue is related to certificates. You need more than just the two that have been floating around to get it to work in 2.8.1. For whatever, reason, if you go through the big update path 2.5.3->2.7.2->2.8.0->2.8.1, those certificates seem to be auto-generated. I know this because it works for me.

There is a link above with the USB Stick Creator. “C4 Lover-Hater on May 20, 2015 at 9:55 am For those still on the hunt No install unzip and run USBStickCreator.exe (possibly as an administrator?).” I am not sure if this is the latest version though. I have been able to create a restore stick successfully but I have not been able to create an install (I get an error saying that USB drive has insufficient capacity – I’ve tried multiple USB drives, multiple sizes all to no avail. Thinking it must be a version issue of some sort).

An Update System dialog appears – Click ‘Advanced’ and choose the 2.7.2 update package and click ‘Begin Update’. – Wait for the update to completely finish. Then close Composer 2.7.2 – Copy the director patch files (Dave_P created a nice zip above) and copy them into C: Program Files (x86) Control4 ComposerPro272 – Right click on ‘patch director.exe’ and ‘Run as Administrator’. A quick dialog will show and patch your system. Then exit this dialog. – Launch Composer 2.7.2 and you should all good to go! If you have to restore your controller to default settings before beginning this adventure, make sure you save a backup of your latest running project.

I tried a couple of suggestions to fix this with no luck. Finally, I restored the original 2.8.2 composer.exe and re-ran the Meekah patch. My guess is something went wrong when I had originally run the older version of the Meekah patch, followed by the new one. I’m pretty excited with the new UI and changes.

I believe that the HC500 cannot be updated to 2.9.

Close all Start Composer and should work Computer and software are strange things you need to play with that, also if that doesnt work uninstall all composers PRo and HE, and go with clean installation with same process. Uninstalled all composerpro, composerhe. Everything composer 2. Installed Composer2.81pro 3. Run “Control4.Composer.Pro.Patcher.By_MeeKaaH.exe” (version 1.0.0.0) From 2/26/2015 (as admin) direct to the composerpro.exe hit patch (reports “Patched”) 4.

I suspect that running the Meekah patch is not necessary for every installation (only the version I want to be on). I did not have the time to try a difference sequence though. Thank you all for all the info! Any idea if C4diy is still alive? Maybe we should restart it.

Uninstall all Control4 programs and remove the /appdata/Roaming/Control4/Composer directory 1. Installed Composer 2.5.3 2.

I’ve tried the Director/broker disable, enables but no change with the eror?????? I finally got this working, but it was painful as heck. You *cannot* go directly from 2.5.3 to 2.8.

This will update it to 2.5.3 Run the director patch. Then open up 2.8, and update it to 2.8 the normal way. Run director patch. I just updated from a working 2.8 to 2.8.1 successfully.

Opened up ComposerPro 2.9.0 and presto – works like a charm. Then did the steps outlined to get to 2.9.0. Not sure if your issue would be fixed with a reinstall (but it certainly fixed some of the issues I had). Can you connect with 2.8.2 or lower version at all?

The composer and the director was cracked and its work fine. No issue on this side 🙂 Thanks everybody! This is what I’m getting when trying to patch 2.5.3 for the first time(HC300 is already running 2.5.3): Connecting to Controller at 192.168.1.167 Connected successfully. I’m having the same problem as Max. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I have a working version of Pro 2.7.2 installed. I also have a version of the 2.8 HE/Pro hybrid running as per Jerry back in Nov. Yesterday I updated by director from 2.8 to 2.8.1 using my Pro 2.7.2.

Get a good dealer.only a platinum dealer. It's not a bad dog, it's just bad owners. I haven't had one flippin problem with Control4 when I had it installed 7 years ago.not one problem.maybe your dealers just suck, or I am the best dealer in the world??? I spent about $10K on C4 stuff in our new house. Being a techie, I should've bailed when the installer pompously spoke of 'writing drivers', etc. And was really just teaching IR commands in a UI.

The Controller will restart director to apply the new files and unlock the project. Completed the Update on the Master Controller. Yes I looked at the Logs in the user profile appdata folder and it is a certificate issue. Here is my log file: 2016-05-19 08:46:02,968 [1 ] ERROR Control4.Client.Controller – Error connecting to controller at 10.10.1.70:5021 System.IO.IOException: Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream. The last Composer Pro version to have full success with the Meekah patch is 2.7 After 2.7, Control4 implemented a broker software which intercedes the login and coordinates access. This extra security layer makes 2.8-2.82 only partly patched by Meekah (which patches the login connection). To use 2.8 and higher, you need to use a hex editor (I used UltraEdit) and open C: Program Files (x86) Control4 ComposerPro282 ComposerPro.exe.config and go down to the line: and change it to: This will enable startup to bypass the broker system as ComposerHE does not require broker.

A while back, I was asked by a partner to create a driver that would allow a user to change multiple Control4 light LEDs at one time. This ‘LED Wizard’ driver allows you to do that. With a single command, you can set the LED color for any LED on any number of Control4 dimmers, switches or keypads. To set LEDs using this driver, go to ‘Programming’, and select the LED Wizard driver in the ‘Actions’ section of the page. Select the Radio Button that says ‘Device Specific Command’, and choose ‘Set Light LED Color’. The parameters for Set Light LED Color include: * Dimmer or Switch List: A list of dimmers or switches whose LED color you wish to change.

I have modified the patch to support the EA3 but the original patch for 253 allowed you to create the cert files with the modified composer EXE file that let you create a login and password. Without this step everything is a waste of time. Everything is locked up.

This may be worth a shot before you reset your controller. I tried installing and patching Composer 2.7.2 on a different computer. The Project Locked message occurred.

Run the Meekah patch on composer 2.8.0 a. Patched the director 8. Installed Composer 2.8.1 (DO NOT OPEN COMPOSER) 9. Run the Meekah patch on Composer 2.8.1 a.
