Finally, vampires are restored to film as monsters to be feared and not as some sympathetic and alluring subculture. The film grabs you from its opening shot of a man walking through a desolate snow covered landscape away from an ominous boat docked in the ice and never lets go. I think you've guessed it, it's not a recommendation. ½ Not bad vamp flick, not really scary or spooky but very bloody and gory. The story and location is slightly original and it looks good, very slick but it kinda reminds me of 'AvP'. The vamps aren't really like traditional vamps more like aliens or creatures and not really effective for me, without their spooky romantic appearance they seem more like animals and you don't connect with them, but I guess that's the difference here. Their look isn't too good either but the leader looks good and certainly menacing, different from the usual long haired look.

Met with skepticism and laughter, she is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls offers an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith, the vampire queen responsible for the assault on her sleepy Alaskan town. With nothing remaining to live for, and nothing left to fear, Stella joins their mission and ventures into the uncharted underbelly of Los Angeles where she pushes herself to the most extreme limits to stop the evil from striking again. The original film surprised me as it was much better than I thought it would be - cheesy in places but the Vampires themselves were quite disturbing and by far the best I had seen for a few years in any Vampire film. Unfortunately, in this follow up they lose all of the menace they had first time around, they don't even speak in their 'native' tongue and it becomes an all too familiar standard modern day Vamp flick. The characters don't endear themselves at all, the acting isn't great and the special effects are OK at best.
